The first ASEM Transport Ministerial Meeting opened Monday in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, 33 countries from Asia and Europe's transport ministers and their representatives, as well as the European Commission and the ASEAN Secretariat and other agency representatives attended the meeting. The General Assembly concluded yesterday.
The meeting's theme is "Asia and Europe connected", the participants will focus on how to develop and deepen between the two continents Asia and Europe sea transport and civil aviation cooperation, establishment of an effective transport system in Asia and Europe and so on four topics to discuss, and eventually through the "Vilnius Declaration."
Lithuanian President Gerry package Baosikaite attended the opening ceremony. She pointed out that an effective and well-developed transportation, facilitate the development of mutual understanding among peoples. The development of transport can promote regional and global economy, balanced development, promote healthy competition in the economy. Lithuania will actively participate in global and regional transportation system, and will actively strengthen its position as Asia-Europe freight and logistics status and role of transit countries.
China's Ministry of Transport Minister Li Shenglin at the opening ceremony, pointed out that transport is the basis for national economic development, and guiding industry in the economy and society play a vital role.
